IRP Labs

NIA's Intramural Research Program includes seven labs. Explore each lab below.

Clinical Core Laboratory and Biorepository

Chief: Josephine Egan, M.D.

The Clinical Core Laboratory and Biorepository supports clinical investigation by assisting with those aspects of experimental design that deal with acquiring and interpreting laboratory data. Learn more about the Clinical Core Laboratory and Biorepository.

Laboratory of Behavioral Neuroscience

Chief: Susan Resnick, Ph.D.

The Laboratory of Behavioral Neuroscience studies individual differences and age-related changes in cognition, personality, brain structure and function, and their influences on age-related changes. Learn more about the Laboratory of Behavioral Neuroscience.

Laboratory of Clinical Investigation

Chief: Josephine Egan, M.D.

The Laboratory of Clinical Investigation conducts research on the identification and development of new therapeutic targets for the treatment of age-related disease. Learn more about the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation.

Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science

Chief: Edward Lakatta, M.D.

The Laboratory of Cardiovascular Sciences studies age-associated changes within the cardiovascular system including mechanisms for these changes, the interaction with chronic disease states, potential therapeutic approaches, and more. Learn more about the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science.

Laboratory of Epidemiology & Population Sciences

Chief: Lenore J Launer, Ph.D.

The Laboratory of Epidemiology and Population Sciences (LEPS) conducts research to identify and test etiologic and predictive hypotheses about health conditions and aging in diverse populations. Learn more about the Laboratory of Epidemiology & Population Sciences.

Laboratory of Genetics & Genomics

Chief: Myriam Gorospe, Ph.D.

The Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics aims to understand the genetic and genomic determinants of aging by investigating the genes and gene expression programs that govern the physiologic decline of aging. Learn more about the Laboratory of Genetics & Genomics.

Laboratory of Molecular Biology & Immunology

Chief: Ranjan Sen, Ph.D.

The Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Immunology (LMBI) conducts research to elucidate molecular mechanisms of processes that contribute to age-associated changes in physiology, including diseases whose prevalence increases with age. Learn more about the Laboratory of Molecular Biology & Immunology.

Laboratory of Neurogenetics

Chief: Mark Cookson, Ph.D.

The Laboratory of Neurogenetics is a highly collaborative research group that investigates the basis of neurodegenerative diseases using genetics, genomics, cell biology, disease modeling, and computational approaches. Learn more about the Laboratory of Neurogenetics.
